Moreno

The district of Moreno is located in the northern part of Buenos Aires province, 37km west of the Capital Federal...

It has been a part of greater Buenos Aires since 1947. Until the arrival of the Spanish, Moreno pertained to the Querandi Indians. On April 12, 1860, the Mariano Moreno train station was built (on part of the Amancio Alcorta ranch that was there from 1836 on). Alcorta divided up the lands bordering the station and put them up for sale, thus giving rise to the first nine blocks. Today the center of that ranch called Paso del Rey is still preserved. It is now the houses which make up the Amancio Alcorta Museum and Municipal Historic Archive, which were declared national historical monument in 1969. October 25th 1864 is considered to be the inauguration day of the district. 1866 marked the first municipality. A number of families from Buenos Aires built weekend homes, attracted by the tranquility and natural beauty. Some of these estates still stand.
